Okay. Here we go.
I got their on time to see the entire show which was good because Lupe’s set was pretty good. He also brought my friend Mano up to play a track from his group He Say She Say. It went over well.
Then N.E.R.D played. They had two really really good drummers and like 50 people on stage and only like 2 good songs. Kind of a bummer that between all the smashes that Chad and Pharrell do on behalf of The Neptunes that the n.e.r.d songs are so different and not that great.
Then Rihanna started. 3 vodka on the rocks later, Kanye is next and I see them start to setup the stage.
Kanye plays. Hes on a planet. There is a spaceship. What the fuck?. The set looks phenomenal. It made me want to play music live again. The production. The remixes. Everything was right on. It only made me wonder why no one else has even come close to doing anything like it.
I can’t give away any more details as I dont want to ruin the show for anyone who is going but if you have a chance to see it, DO IT. It is worth it. Plus he gave away his book to everyone as they left. Oh, and then I walked home from the United Center because I couldn’t find a fucking cab. That sucked. However, on my walk home I saw Lupe’s secret weapon (Matthew Santos, I think?) riding his bike home from the venue and stopping to talk to kids, which was pretty rad of him.
Tonight I’m going to the Honda Civic Tour. Stoked to see friends I rarely get to see and stoked to see Phantom Planet play those new jams.
